Extracting Addresses Using a Selection Area
Overview
Knowing the address points within a parish is useful for a
whole host of reasons, among these are: maintaining accurate electoral
registers for parish council elections; verify who lives with the boundary;
newsletter/consultation letters, parish surveys.
Parish Online mapping holds Address Point data of the whole
country updated daily and includes prebuild data where available so can help
with planning.
This article describes ways of extracting and compiling
addresses based on area extraction.
Using the Boundary to select all Addresses from within
the Parish
1. Open the Address layer, select a point within
the parish boundary where there are no addresses. Your parish will be selected.
2. Use the Data Extract Tool, the red box above.
3. Select Run the data will extract using the
postcode boundary. NOTE: If you have previously used the Data Extract tool then
that selection will populate the window when you open it again. You MUST then
select Run to refresh the extraction table.
The numbers indicate the number of features that have been extracted.
4. The Export button will create and download a
Comma Separated Values file (.csv) which can be opened in Excel.
Note any cells full of hashes just mean the column isn’t wide enough to view the data. Hover the mouse over the column divider and move it wider to view the data.
1. First view the Address and Postcode Area layers
from the Addresses collection
2. Select the postcode you wish to extract
addresses from and make sure you then select the correct layer from the left
panel, Postcode Areas, because there is more than one layer that has a feature
at that location.
3. Then select the Data Extract tool, the red box
below
4. Then follow steps 3 and 4 from the previous
example.
1. Open the layer you want to use to add an area
feature and use to select Addresses,
Then right click the layer (AS test plots2 in the example) then Add Feature
2. Over the map, click around the area of interest
and then close the polygon. Then Save the feature and close the Feature Editor.
3. Select the Feature, pick the correct layer in
which it resides. Then use the Data Extract Tool.
4. Make sure you select Run if there is already
data in the tool to refresh with the latest extraction data.
