Adjusting the strength / visibility of a Map Layer

Overview

Map Layers, whether they are background maps (like Ordnance Survey mapping and aerial photography), or overlays (like your own drawn layers) have both a set style and a default opacity.

The set style controls how the features in the layer are displayed.

The opacity controls the transparency of the whole layer.

Changing the style of the layer

Please refer to the Styling tutorial. It includes how to set the opacity of individual components of the style.

Changing the opacity of the layer

  1. Switch the layer on by clicking the title. A tick will appear to the right of the title.
  2. Hover over the tick (which turns into a Cog icon, and click the Cog.
  3. Use the sliding bar to change the opacity. This can be set from zero, i.e. completely transparent (far left) to 100, i.e. fully visible (far right).
