Duplicating Map Layers

Overview

If you have a map layer that you'd like to change substantially, then you can duplicate the layer. This can be useful for:
  1. Making fundamental changes to a Map Layer, whilst retaining the original (great for version control).
  2. Taking the structure of a Map Layer to start a new project.
  3. Having a separate Map Layer for tweaking or experimenting.



Permissions

This functionality is only available if you are an Administrator or have Data Manager rights.
This functionality is only available on layers that you are the owner/creator of. For Parish Online accounts these layers will appear in the 'Parish Layers' collection.

Method

To duplicate a Map Layer:

From the Map View

  1. Switch on the Map Layer and click the Cog icon (or right click the layer)
  2. Select Duplicate Layer from the menu
When copying from the Map View, the new layer will appear in the same Collection.

From the Admin Panel

  1. Select the Map Layer from the layer list
  2. Click the Duplicate Layer icon in the top menu panel.
When copying from the Admin Panel, the new layer will need to be added to a Collection manually. For Parish Online customers, this will automatically be the Parish Layers Collection.

Configuration

When duplicating a layer, you have two main options:
  1. Including Map Data?
    1. If ticked, the features within the Map Layer will be copied as well.
    2. If unticked, the Map Layer will be blank with no features copied over.
  2. Change Geometry Type?
    1. If ticked, you can choose which geometry type you'd like the new Map Layer to be (note: copying features as well is not compatible with this setting)
    2. If unticked, the new Map Layer will be the same geometry type as the original
