Overview

Parish Online contains digital map data from a variety of sources, including the layers that our customers draw within the software itself. However, there are instances where other mapping data needs to be loaded into Parish Online to help with projects and maintenance tasks.

Types of Upload

Data sourced from a Local Authority

We actively encourage Local Authorities sharing data with Parish Online. It's a great way to make sure Local Councils have access to the same information at the principle authorities, especially when it comes to the likes of;

• settlement boundaries
• conservation areas
• LLPG address points
• tree preservation orders (TPOs), etc.

If you receive data from a Local Authority, make sure it covers their entire Local Authority area and then we'll upload that into Parish Online for free. Remind them that:

• It's important to share updates to ensure the data doesn't go stale
• They can have a free XMAP/Parish Online account to do the data uploads themselves (it's as simple as a drag and drop)
• Parish Online has many cost-savings and efficiency savings in Local Government and Parish Online give group discounts when purchasing a subscription in a group.

Data specific to a Local Council

If you have mapping data that you'd like loaded into Parish Onlineand it doesn't fall under the previous section, we can do this for a small charge. Information might include:

• Tree surveys (from your consultant)
• Walking routes (from a GPS device)
• Information exported from another mapping system (how dare you?!)

Pricing

We need to charge for this work because there are many different flavours of mapping data and it's not always a quick and easy process.

• £50 excluding VAT per request. Each request can include up to 5 layers of information.

If the data is in a difficult-to-use format then we may need to charge extra to process it. We'll let you know before starting this.

Data Formats

Our preferred data formats are:

• Shapefile. This is made up of 4 or more files. One of them will be a .shp.
• TAB File. Same as above, but one will be a .tab.
• Excel sheet.This must have coordinates for each record so we can turn it into a map.
• CSV file. Same criteria as an Excel sheet.
• GPX. These usually come from a GPS device. They usually contain both lines and points. When imported into Parish Online they'll display as two separate layers.
