Transfer a co.uk, org.uk or uk domain over to Parish Online
Overview
If you've switched to Parish Online as your Website and/or Email provider, you may well have an old domain that your previous website used. To avoid people continuing to visit that website you can get Parish Online to take over the management of the domain and set up automatic forwarding for both the website and emails.
Why
It is recommended to do this for the following reasons:
- You want visitors to see your new site, not your old one
- Your new site won't end up top of search engine results until your old site is decommissioned
- You don't want to use your old email address but you don't want to miss emails if people still try and use it
Things to Check First
- If you want to copy your email archive over to your new gov.uk mailbox, carry out the email migration first.
- Make sure you've got everything off your old website you need.
Once this method is kicked-off, your old website and email will shortly become unavailable.
Method
This process is for transferring any of the following domains over to Parish Online;
- uk
- co.uk
- org.uk
- Ask your current Domain Registrar to set the IPS Tag as "PARISHONLINE"
- We'll do the rest!
Note: there is usually a charge for Parish Online hosting your non-gov.uk domains
What Happens Next
- We'll receive the request
- We'll accept the transfer to bring it over to our management
- We'll change the settings to point the domain at your new website and emails.
- We'll add the service charge to your next subscription bill
