Transfer a gov.uk domain to Parish Online

Transfer a gov.uk domain to Parish Online

Overview

You will need to transfer the management of your gov.uk domain name over to Parish Online if you have our Website, Email or Domain service.

Method

  1. Contact your current Domain Registrar (the IT company that currently look after your website and/or email) and ask them to raise a Transfer Authorisation Code (TAC). They will validate your request and provide a code, typically within 2 working days.
    1. If your Registrar is unresponsive then you can escalate this with Nominet who oversee GOV.UK domains. See section below.
  2. Send that code to Parish Online

What Happens Next

Parish Online will immediately take over the management of your gov.uk domain, but will only attach our services to it once you're ready.

Escalation Process

A Registrar is obliged to provide you with a TAC within 2 working days. However, if the Registrar is not responding to your requests then you have an escalation path you can take.

You should:
  1. Try all known and searchable contact methods; by phone and email, to make contact with the Registrar.
  2. Jot down every time you try and contact them as proof that you've tried.
  3. If you aren't making any progress then email gtldsupport@nominet.uk and include in your email:
    1. The domain name you need to transfer
    2. Your contact details and your position within the council
    3. Your log of the attempts you've made to contact your registrar
Nominet are usually able to resolve these issues and as a last resort can provide the TAC for you, but usually they are able to speak to the Registrar and get them to issue a TAC to you.

Once you have the TAC you can send it to Parish Online.
