Can I use newsletter software with our gov.uk address?
Overview
It's recommended to use a mass-mailing application like Mailchimp, Zoho Campaigns, Email Octopus or MailerLite for sending out regular emails to a large number of subscribers.
If you try to use your own mailbox then you'll quickly hit the 100 recipients limit and you'll be classed as a "spammer"!
Getting your domain/email address verified in the mailing software
Most mailing software will allow you to send from your gov.uk address, but first it will need some DNS records (aka domain settings) to verify that you're allowed to send from that address.
Most mailing software will therefore provide you with DKIM codes that the Parish Online team will need to add to your domain for you.
In general, the instructions are:
- Log into your mailing software
- Find the domain verification bit
- Enter your gov.uk domain
- Copy the records that it provides
- Send those records to us
Note: Many of these records will be long strings of text, so paste them into the email rather than sending screenshots.
